About Me

Hey there! I’m Jacob Pfau, the proud owner of Primal Barbell. Standing at 6’4″ and 42 years young, I’m on a mission to help others rediscover their inner strength and feel young again.

Now, you might think that being tall would make squats and deadlifts impossible for me. They’re not impossible! I’ve spent the last 12 years mastering these lifts, coaching everyone from seasoned athletes to everyday folks just like you. I know the challenges we face, and I’ve turned those hurdles into stepping stones (or should I say, lifting stones?) for myself and my clients.

My Story
Growing up, I was the lanky kid who often heard, “You look like a basketball player” While I did play basketball, I blossomed into a football player in college and during that process I found my passion in the weight room. I discovered that lifting wasn’t just about building muscle; it was about confidence, mobility, athleticism and feeling alive. Now, I’m dedicated to sharing that passion with others—especially those of us who may feel like time is slipping away.

Life hasn’t always gone perfectly. There were periods of life where I lost my health. In 2015 and 2020 I found myself in the hospital with high blood pressure. The stress of life and the consequences of poor eating caught up with me. After making sure my symptoms weren’t life threatening, I resolved to change my diet and put the high blood pressure back in remission. Using the primal diet and my increasing knowledge of gut health, I was able to avoid my genetic predisposition, and get back to optimal health. I don’t like seeing others suffer, and I’m here to help you get back to optimal health as well. As a health coach, I realize there is more to all of this than just having a disease and going on meds, or not having a disease, and everyone who desires to live to their potential should be armed to do just that.

At Primal Barbell, my goal is to make strength training enjoyable, engaging, and effective. I also want to make nutrition practical and effective with less effort. We’ll tackle the challenging squats, deadlifts AND meal planning together, transforming them from daunting to doable.
